Teachers Salary
Figures listed are for the 2010-11 School year.

Please note salaries for locally hired teachers are the same as for overseas-hired teachers at Hong Kong Academy.

Entry-level salary determination
A teacher’s entry level is based upon years of full-time teaching experience following a 4-year Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. A step is credited for each year of full-time classroom teaching. The maximum entry level is step 10. The maximum salary level is step 20.

Salary increases in subsequent years
Upon contract renewal, teachers move up one step for each year of teaching. The maximum salary level is 20.

Advanced degree supplement
A teacher receives a supplement to base salary in recognition of advanced degrees that meet the following criteria:

(1) The advanced degree is in the field of education.
(2) The advanced degree is a minimum of 30 credits.
The supplement for a Master’s degree is HK$2,100 per month. The supplement for a Ph.D. is HK$4,100 per month.

Pay schedule and currency
Staff is paid on the last day of each month, either by payroll check or by direct deposit. Forms to arrange the direct deposit are available from the Business Operations Manager. All salaries are paid in Hong Kong dollars which is approximately 7.8 HK$ to 1 US$
