Hosting a delegation from AMCO Latin American schools

March 2024

We had the privilege of hosting a delegation from AMCO Latin American schools for a visit to Hong Kong Academy last week. We warmly welcomed 50 visitors, who were greeted by Lynne McCall, our Institutional Director, and Virginia, Primary School Principal. The visit commenced with an introduction to the mission and culture of HKA, providing our esteemed guests with valuable insights into our educational approach. During their visit, the delegation had the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of campus life through classroom observations, allowing them to witness our dynamic learning environment firsthand. The visit concluded with a delightful lunch at our HKEats cafeteria, providing a taste of our vibrant school community. As our guests departed, we trust that their time at HKA left a lasting impression, conveying the importance of diversity and inclusivity as fundamental pillars of our institution. We hope that this visit has inspired the delegation, leaving them with a positive impression of Hong Kong and igniting a sense of enthusiasm for their educational journey ahead.

Hosting Aspiring Principals

February 2024

HKA was pleased to welcome 30 delegates from The Education University of Hong Kong on Thursday 7 March 2024. This group of passionate educators are currently working as coordinators in Hong Kong schools and studying to become vice principals. Through a series of classroom visits, workshops and group discussions the visitors gained insight into HKA’s mission, philosophy and teaching approaches making connections to their own practice and future aspirations.

Compass Education Workshop – “Teaching & Learning for a Sustainable World”

HKA was thrilled to host the Compass Education certification workshop, “Teaching & Learning for a Sustainable World”. Facilitated by our Secondary School Principal, Ms. Teresa Tung, educators from Hong Kong and the surrounding region had the opportunity to explore the concept of sustainability with a specific emphasis on the role of education and the use of systems thinking to enhance student learning.

Early Childhood Education Conference

November 2023

Recently HKA hosted an Early Childhood Education Conference focused on the power of international education. The participation of over 25 delegates from 6 provinces in China shows the significance of the event.

It was a pleasure to partner with Orange Studio Professional Learning Community and lead this conference with the aim of emphasizing the importance of taking educators beyond the confines of the classroom and into the world to foster intercultural understanding and global citizenship among early childhood students. This approach aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which provide a framework for addressing global challenges and promoting a more sustainable future.

By engaging with the world and learning beyond the school environment, students have the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of their place in the world. The conference explored various teaching and learning methods, such as block building, role play, and symbolic representation, which allow students to process and express their understanding of the world around them.

The inclusion of classroom observations, interactive workshops led by HKA’s Early Childhood teachers, and a teacher panel showcased HKA’s commitment to fostering intercultural awareness and global citizenship. Workshops included topics such as Promoting Diversity Through Books and Toys, Hand Signals and Number Talks, Agency in Art, Chinese Language Infusion, The Role of Play and more. By sharing our learning and teaching practices, HKA aims to inspire and support educators in their efforts to develop interculturally minded global citizens.

Overall, this conference provided a valuable platform for educators to exchange ideas, gain insights, and enhance their pedagogical approaches to better prepare students for an interconnected and diverse world.
